New York

Believe it or not, Claire and Keith have been together for 10 years. Back in February 1992, Claire and Keith were introduced by mutual friends. Claire originally rejected at least half a dozen date request, but after much persistence, finally accepted an invitation to lunch. Well, one date was all it took, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Keith chose to celebrate the occasion by surprising Claire with a weekend in New York. After carefully planning how he would execute the surprise, Keith had to tell Claire about the weekend 7 days before. Claire was having a bad week, and it was felt that she would cheer up if she had something to look forward to. She was therefore told and was able to bask in the excitement.

The weekend included lots of shopping, including a brand new digital camera for Keith, with which most of the pictures for this site were taken, and a visit to the theatre to see Phantom of the Opera, the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic. Despite the after effects of September 11th, tickets for the play are still hard to come by, Keith was only able to find tickets at a premium via an on-line reseller. But it was well worth the extra bucks. Orchestra centre seating and an excellent performance. Howard McGillin and Sarah Pfisterer performed the roles popularized by Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman.

The couple also had an opportunity to visit Ground Zero, the site of the former World Trade Centre twin towers. It was Keith's second visit since the attacks, and he commented on how the atmosphere had changed. "Back in November, there was a very emotional feeling to the visit. One could not help but shed a tear, especially after walking past St. Paul's and seeing the memorials to those lost. This time it felt like an attraction, with vendors selling memorabilia, and a long slow moving line of people waiting to walk the "platform" to get a good view of the site."

Keith's mum watched the boys for the weekend and Keith and Claire are very much looking forward to doing it again.
